Wandering
Wandering performances offer moments of contact and excitement for individual guests, as well as a glorious splash of life and energy to an event as a whole. They can transform the ordinary to the extraordinary, shattering the ice, adding to the atmosphere and dressing a space. These performances are also referred to as walk-about, dance-about, and bend-about (gymnastics, acrobatics and contortion).
1. Visibility.
Using large props like flags and ribbons, large characters like stilt walkers and Optioscopes, raising artists on podiums, stairways or rooftops, mixing loud colours and patterns and adding group unison or dynamic choreography all give fantastic results and raise the profile of the performance for maximum effect. Lights can also be added to any costume. Artists can perform together for greater impact, or times can be staggered giving even more exposure.
2. Roles.
Defined roles create clarity and increase the effectiveness of the performance. Greeting, guiding, and bidding farewell are valuable roles, drawing attention to an event, helping guests flow from space to space, encouraging guests to dinner or tempting them onto the dance floor. Handing out treats is a charming way of creating interaction between guests and artists. These performances introduce vibrant colour and energy, generate excitement and help to make an event truly unforgettable. Our In-depth guide contains information and guidance on the roles performance can fulfil.
3. Choreography.
Our artists can play with our unique repertoire, turning a wandering performance into a live composition with rolling segments of choreographed material. To add further structure artists can perform pre-arranged high points of unison to create moments of extra impact. Stilts can be used to lift artists in busy areas, allowing them to see one another and everybody to see the performance. Our stilt walkers are dancers first and foremost, and our beautifully polished repertoire for stilt dance can include the use of other disciplines (e.g. fire, Optioscopes, ribbons etc).
4. Environments.
Our artists perform in a wide range of environments, from stately homes to street parties. Some audiences respond well to very interactive performance, others may simply welcome a talking point. It can be a delicate balance; our artists work alongside the event team and use their experience to judge the best approach and pace. Our stilt walkers can work on bumpy ground and in amongst crowds, navigate lifts and take advantage of stairs and staggered floors. For outside performance we offer safeguards against unruly weather and can supply a range of props and wet weather alternatives at no extra cost.
5. Music.
Music and sound effect systems can be worn around the artists’ bodies to play whilst they perform. These are wonderful for close up or indoor work, and can be added to any of our costumes. We can work to a huge range of music with variations in style, time signature, tempo and structure, and are well practiced at performing to our clients’ music. We are happy to provide ambient music for our wandering performances. We have a large musical library and also offer a musical sourcing service.
6. Technical specifications.
Our technical specification documents cover the things we need from you, and are available from the website for account holders, or upon request. We also issue these documents at the point of booking.
